Olivia Palermo's Geometric dress

Olivia Palermo works the geometric trend at Fashion's Night Out

Olivia Palermo went to NYC’s Fashion’s Night Out wearing a stunning geometric dress by Free People and finished off her outfit with a simple pair of heels and embellished accessories. We saw geometric dresses from designers such as Mary Katrantzou and Prada on the SS12 catwalks. However most high streets are sticking to animal prints and bold colours such as cobalt blue for their AW collections.

What do you think of geometric prints? Do you have to be skinny to wear them or can any shape get away with it?

River Islands t-shirt dresses

___________________________________________

River Island has brought out a collection of t-shirt dresses in a range of prints and bold colours.

This particular style of dress is perfect for any shape or size. If you are a boyish figure, buy them in a smaller size so it doesn't hang far from your body. If you are a curvier shape, add a belt to accentuate your curves. With these dresses costing between £30 and £35, they are an affordable addition to your wardrobe.

Since I wrote this post, some of the t-shirt dresses have been reduced to £20 in store! Get yours now! If you purchase one, comment and let me know what you styled it with.

Mango AW Collection

Buttons military blazer

Mango released their AW12 collection into their UK stores on the 30th August. They have included a military blazer, a herringbone short coat and an angora leopard jumper, all under £40.
The military blazer is an absolute steal and is only £29.99. It comes in a range of different colours including black, white, red, blue and khaki. The Herringbone coat is £39.99 and is such a thick warm coat for such a cheap price, especially from Mango. And finally, my favourite item of all. The angora leopard jumper. Angora is a more expensive type of wool which is why this jumper is £39.99. The shape and fit of the jumper however is absolutely stunning and is really flattering. This is a print which can also be worn any season. Mango's AW collection is full of must buy pieces which are essentials in your winter wardrobe.

If you have purchased the leopard jumper or a jumper with angora, comment and tell me how it is to wear. Mohair is a nightmare to wear which is why I'm hesitant to buy angora or mohair.

Is that from Zara? No, it's Primark..

Recently I have noticed Primark selling many pieces which are very similar to what I've seen in Zara but at a fraction of the price. This shirt is from Zara (£29.99) and is absolutely stunning.

However I have noticed that Primark are selling a shirt for £12 which is very similar, instead of a Parrot print, it is a Koala print. The Zara shirt has a more vibrant print but from a distance they look pretty similar.

Also, these shoes are an absolute must have. They are £12 from Primark and are perfect for making a simple outfit look that little bit more interesting and stylish. The metallic strap means they are on trend and the style is very similar to shoes I've seen in Zara.

If you know of any white shirts with a subtle print on, like the two on this post, please tell me where to get them!

Whitney Port

Whitney Port has the career we all dream of! Whitney first became known from being on MTV series 'The Hills' along with co stars Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari. We saw her career first begin at Teen Vogue magazine before working for Kelly Cutrone in PR. Whitney has kept climbing the career ladder and ended up moving to New York to work for Diane Von Furstenberg. She is now a designer for her own label 'Whitney Eve'. Her fashion represents her style and her fabulous taste.

Whitney is an inspiration to all young girls who dream to work in Fashion to show how the industry works and how to network and gain those contacts you need to make it in the industry. About a year ago I bought Whitney Ports book 'True Whit'. I absolutely love this book and I read it over and over. The book is about 'designing a life of style, beauty and fun'. The book starts with Whitney advising you on your home interior and how to keep it organised and tidy. Chapter two, titled 'working girl' is about job interviews, the do's and don'ts. The book then goes on into styling and building a fitness plan. True Whit is an overall good read. It covers every part of your life in order to be successful in the industry. I would recommend this book to any girl who is interested in a career in Fashion.

I want to read more books like True Whit, comment if you know of any!

Almost identical...

The most irritating thing about Topshop for me is that their stock just doesn't seem to stick around for long. You go in, try something on but just don't feel like you should buy it. You finally make your mind up to buy it and go marching into the store to find that it has either sold out or they don't have your size.
As I am a fashion student, I'm well aware how regularly fast fashion retailers change their stock, however Topshop always seem to sell out of my favourite things on a regular basis. An example of this was a gold metallic jacquard mini skirt. It was £40 which is quite a lot to spend on a skirt, however I bought a leather skirt from River Island last year in black and wore it to death, so i figured it would be worth investing in another AW skirt to wear with knitwear. However, the stocks just didn't last. It sold out online almost immediatly and I never even sore the skirt actually in a store.
Whilst browsing on Missguided this morning, I came across a skirt which is pretty much identical (minus a few details) to the Topshop one, at less than half the price.

The skirt on the left is from Topshop (£40) and the skirt on the right is from Missguided (£18.99). The major difference is the shape. The Topshop skirt is more A-line and doesn't cling to your shape, however the Missguided one is more of a bodycon skirt.
I finally gave up after looking for the Topshop skirt on ebay and everywhere you can imagine online and decided to give in. Topshop has now brought the skirt back in and it is available online, but our culture now is throw-away fashion and I now no longer want to buy the skirt (typical).
This has taught me to look around online before investing in a new piece as similar garments may be online at a cheaper price.

If you have this skirt, comment and tell me whether it is worth investing in!

Wardrobe essential

This is my first post for September. I've been very busy recently and haven't had a chance to blog. My reason for blogging today is to give you another wardrobe essential. It is ofcourse another basic dress from one of my favourite retailers, Topshop.

This dress is only £40 and is a staple you need in your wardrobe. It isn't in stores yet but when it is I will definitely be purchasing it in this bright pink colour and also in black. This particular pink is on trend this season and is a great way to inject a bit of colour into your AW wardrobe. Another great thing about this dress is that you can wear it casually with tights, flats and a jacket or you can dress it up with jewellery, heels and a clutch. So far I have only seen it in pink and black but I'm sure if it sells well Topshop will bring it out in a whole range of other colours.
