I have just got home after completing my work experience at Matalan Head Office in Skelmersdale and I have to say, it was very tiring! As I am applying for a placement in industry in a few weeks as part of my degree at Nottingham Trent University, this Summer was vital for gaining experience in buying and merchandising.
I worked with the buyers today and had a busy day with fittings, samples and meetings, and at the end of my work experience the buyers surprised me by letting me take some samples home!
Matalan is a retailer that is completely underestimated by the public. People have the perception that Matalan clothes are 'trampy' and 'out of fashion', however, from working in the Head Office and looking at what will be in stores in the upcoming months I have to say I know where my student loan will be going!
With on trend jerseys and a wide range of party dresses hitting stores this Autumn/Winter, Matalan will be full of 'got-to-have' buys and at an affordable price. Matalan have lower prices than other retailers such as River Island and Topshop as they pass the saving onto the customer.
The samples that were given to me today are similar to tops we have seen in pretty much all high street retailers, however at the same quality at a much cheaper price.
I got these two peplum tops which are currently in stores at a price of £12.
They are made out of a fabulous material which is extremely comfortable and wearable and the oversized peplum is very flattering.
I also got two fishtail tops which were recently selling in Topshop for over £30, however Matalan's version are a mere £10! The grey and the black are my two favourite colours in that particular style of top, however Matalan also do them in a stone and a coral.
